Take Flight Leadership is about strengthening your team. I’ve always believed leaders should be measured by how well they help their teammates and organizations achieve their goals. Many of us have heard the story about the sower and the seeds. The sower cast out seeds, and only the seeds that fell on the good soil could take root and grow. From June 2018 to June 2019, VP-47 officially reported 16 incidents of sexual assault, sexual harassment, suicidal ideation, or domestic violence. Over the same time-frame one year later, the squadron had zero documented instances. Leaders don’t make or break an organization; they make or break people, relationships, and families. Leadership’s real impact is both humbling and terrifying. Your employees are counting on you to lead well. Their families need you to get it right. The stakes are high. Cultivating culture in your organization may be the most critical prospect of your lifetime.

I developed this interactive presentation while working in the Navy. As a Commanding Officer, I was blown away by how many of our employees struggle with mental health. In my efforts to better understand our struggle, I learned that an individual's desire to belong is profound. Today's leaders have a obligation to make every employee a valued member of the team.

The military only manages to keep 17% of their talent. Why? That staggering statistic represents an incredible waste of talent and money...waste most organizations can't afford. Studies show that employees commit to a purpose and to people, not to an organization. Focus your team on why and who they serve to maximize employee engagement and retention.
